The Piney Grove Road bridge replacement project will
bring noticable improvements to a key route which connects
the Irmo area to Interstate 26. As the prime contractor
for this project, U.S. Group, Inc., will be responsible
for replacing an old and overloaded bridge over Kinley
Creek, as well as improving adjacent roadways.
In addition to replacing the existing
bridge over Kinley Creek with one which is wider and
better suited for the high volume of traffic, this project
will include other changes which are intended to improve
traffic flow on Piney Grove:
- Realignment of the intersection of
Hempstead and Piney Grove Roads,
just south of Kinley Creek,
- Realignment of the intersection of
Nottingham and Piney Grove Roads,
just north of Kinley Creek,
- Construction of a center left-turn
lane for safer access to and from
Hempstead, Nottingham, and Broken Hill Roads, and
- Relocation of the main channel of
Kinley Creek for better water flow
and drainage in this area.
The staging of work for this project will be planned
in a manner which will minimize the overall impact
of construction operations upon traffic.
Conditions permitting, this project is expected to
be completed in mid-2009.
U.S. Group, Inc., SCDOT, and local
law enforcement will be working together to ensure
all traffic laws, including posted speed limits, are
obeyed. Please drive carefully through this and any
other highway work zones.
The areas marked in orange in the map below indicate
